The answer to all these questions was NO. Although Vickey's family did not believe she had runaway, the police officer suggested to put this in their statement. Vickey was labeled a runaway juvenile who could not be picked up by authorities unless she committed a crime. Vickey's family was told runaway's were an everyday occurrence and were not taken seriously.

Vickey's family never stopped looking for her. They traveled over 3,000 miles and distributed posters. After six painful months, on October 18, 1983 the skeletal remains of a teenage victim were found in Bithlo, Florida. (Approximately 15 miles from were she lived) On November 28, 1983 the remains were 90% positively identified as Vickey Wills.
